TSC HISTORY

During the last 7 years Sustainable Energy Enterprise Developments Pty. Ltd. and our publicity business, the Waters Group, have organised and implemented many Solarcar and renewable energy technology activities and events most notably the Australian ‘SunRace’ now in it’s 7th year

In1994 we organised the Perth to Sydney record run for the Aurora Vehicle Association which resulted in Aurora Q1setting a new record of 8 1/2 days for this journey. The original record of 21 days was established in 1982 by Hans Tholstrup and Larry Perkins - the very birthplace of the Solarcar.

TSC 2002 route and Greenhouse Issues

The fundamental premise remains - ‘TSC 2002’ is about furthering the development and showcasing of super efficient renewable energy technologies for the 21st Century - winning the Greenhouse race.

The original Tholstrup/Perkins Perth Sydney trek and the 1994 Aurora expedition ran this same 4000 km via Port Augusta, Broken Hill and Bathurst to Sydney.

TSC to alternate with WSC

The TSC - Perth to Sydney Trans-continental Solarcar Challenge, to be held in alternate years to the Darwin to Adelaide World Solar Challenge, together with the now annual Sydney to Melbourne SunRace, will make Australia the pre-eminent destination for the international Solarcar Community each year.

There has never been a more Challenging Solarcar event in the World !

A Breathtaking 2002 Km Challenge. A Spectacular Public Awareness Event

The Tran-continental Solar Challenge2002, an awesomely challenging 4000 kilometres from Perth to Sydney via Port Augusta and Broken Hill  is a public awareness event primarily aimed at promoting sustainable energy technologies and greenhouse issues. The entire event is free to the public.

4000 Scorching Kilometres - A New Record

TSC 2002 will cover 4000 km from Perth to Sydney. An ‘ideal’ performance will see a Solarcar reach Sydney in 6 - 7 ‘on-road’ days.

TSC 2000 - People and media friendly.

The Trans-continental Solar Challenge Media will reach many million Australians in major capitol cities and hundreds of millions around the world together with vast outback and regional coverage.

PERTH START - Pre Race

The Trans-continental Solar Challenge 2002, TSC 2002, will start it’s epic journey from Scarborough Beach, Perth to Sydney in October /November 2002. The ‘Start’ will be proceeded by Registration and Scrutineering and Solarcar trials.

SYDNEY FINISH - A tradition

The Sydney Opera House has become the traditional ‘Finish’ for Perth - Sydney Solarcar journeys. Hans Tholstrup and Larry Perkins made the worlds first Solarcar journey in 1982, carrying a flask of water from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean - Sydney Harbour at the Opera House - to symbolise this 21 day crossing of the Australian continent.

TSC - History

In 1994 we repeated Tholstrup and Perkins’ journey with the Aurora Solarcar Team which arrived at the Sydney Opera House in a new record time of 8.5 days. In January of 1999 the University of NSW Solarcar Team attempted to set a new record, again finishing at the Sydney Opera House but failed to set a new record due to adverse weather conditions.

The Organisers

Sustainable Energy Enterprise Developments Pty Ltd has been organising Solarcar Events for many years now, including the very successful record breaking and award winning SunRace - now running from Adelaide to Sydney via Melbourne and Canberra. We are primarily a publicity and event management organisation focused on environmental and technology issues.

The Event Direction will be under the control of John Hoer, SunRace Event Director and Chris Selwood, WSC Event Director.

Satellite Controls - OCV’s

TSC 2002 will enter the new era of satellite telecommunications and dispense with traditional manual fixed race controls. Each team will be accompanied by an Official Observer/ Control Vehicle, ( OCV ), carrying satellite communication equipment. There will be no fixed-base event controls. OCV crews will camp with their assigned Solarcar teams along the route. OCV crews will change teams at TSC 2002 stage intervals.

Sydney Finale

The Sydney finale will see the TSC 2002 Solarcar Teams enter Sydney over the Sydney harbour bridge and on to the Sydney Opera House forecourt for VIP welcome. There will be a very significant Australian and International media presence at the TSC 2002 Sydney ‘Finish’.
